Ice-Out Contest

Each year, from January through March, Brookfield Historical Society holds an ice-out contest as a fundraiser.  Ticket purchasers have the opportunity of guessing when a cement block, attached to an alarm clock, plunges through the ice of Brookfield’s Sunset Lake. The timing apparatus, designed by engineering students in Professor Greg Wight’s mechatronics class at Norwich University, is set on the north side of the Floating Bridge and in a central position on the lake.  The person who estimates the nearest time to the actual ice-out wins 25% of the prize money.  The remaining proceeds benefit the Brookfield Historical Society.

2025 Ice-Out Contest Opens in January!

Thank you for participating.
