About

“On September 3, 1933, a meeting was held at the Floating Bridge Tea Room to form the Brookfield Historical Society for the purpose of collecting and preserving data, anecdotes, and objects relative to the history of Brookfield, Vermont.  Dr. E.E. 1. Hello – my mother has a family photo which is in “The History of Brookfield” pages 190,191, 192 . The text of the piece was written by my cousin Mark Jenkinson. This is the family portrait which is in an oval wood frame with a convex glass cover. It seems to be tinted as they did back in the day. Anyway she is interested in the Historical Society having the photo and frame. I am in Vermont for only a short time and would like to hear from you as soon as possible to see if you want this piece of Brookfield history. We want to take my mom to the cemetery where many relatives are resting next week – can we arrange a meeting??
    Thank you Thomas Steele

  2. Good morning.
I am hoping that Elinor Gray would be willing to contact me directly.
My name is Diane Hassan and I am the Research Specialist at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society. I am currently working on a project with ties to Brookfield, VT and would like to connect with Elinor to discuss. I can be reached via email at dhassan@danburymuseum.org. Thanks for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

  3. Dear Mr. Hoffman,
Thank you for your message. From what you have said about Wheatley family items in your possession we would be very interested in learning more. These are the type of items that the Society is interested in acquiring. Are the portraits photographic images or some other medium? The sampler is clearly of interest.

  4. I have family portraits of Nathaniel and Lydia Wheatly and an
1828 sampler done by their daughter 10 year old Lydia Ann Wheatly.
Would these items be of interest to the historical society?

    • Mr. Hoffman, I tried to send an email this morning letting you know we are interested in your items. It did not go through, but I will try again.

  5. Hello, I just wanted to inquire to see if there was any interest in the BHS owning my uncle’s personal military effects. Uncle Floyd was a lifetime resident of Brookfield and spent his life on the family farm which straddles the Brookfield/Roxbury Town Line. He served in the Korean War and his name is on the memorial in Brookfield Center. He passed away in December 2010. We wish to do him honor by preserving the memory of his contribution to the military. Or, perhaps you know of another organization or resource that would be interested in the memorobilia. I would provide a catalogue of items if interested. Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

    • Good Morning,

We would be interested to know more about the items you have and how we could include them in our collection at the Marvin Newton House.
Thank you for thinking of us.

      Elinor Gray, Historian
